About the event
Please join us for 'Taking Action, Saving Lives: Substance Use, Dual Diagnosis and the Impact of COVID-19 on Suicide Prevention. Dr. Jim Polo and Dr. Nicholas Phillips will discuss multiple aspects of suicide prevention. Attendees will learn:
- the importance of screening for suicidality in all patients and of doing so without parents present for adolescents
- · Recognize cannabis use as a modifiable risk factor associated with increased odds of depression, suicidality, and non-suicidal self-injury
- · Demonstrate basic knowledge of which medications have been shown in literature/clinical studies to decrease suicidal ideation
- · Improve knowledge or risk factors for suicide and risk stratification of the suicidal patient
- · Learn evidence-based management strategies to reduce suicide risk and prevent suicide
- · Understand the definition and classification of dual diagnosis from a clinical perspective, and learn the key population health demographics applicable to practice.
- · Gain an appreciation for why all patients should be approached from an integrated assessment framework that includes both mental health and substance use problems.
- · Learn the key elements and considerations of suicidal ideation, gestures, and attempts
